Citizens League

March 5, 2012
For 60 years, the Citizens League has created common ground across parties and ideologies to solve some of the biggest challenges facing Minnesota. On issues like schools, taxes, transportation, health care, and water, some of Minnesota's greatest public achievements have emerged from the Citizens League. Citizens League members connect with other Minnesotans, learn to lead on issues that matter to them and create solutions that achieve the common good.

The Citizens League is unique in its history of framing problems and then recommending and advancing creative solutions to these policy problems, among them: charter schools, the Minnesota Miracle, the Metropolitan Council and the Fiscal Disparities Act. Their work is supported financially by individual donations from their 2,200 individual/household members and by strong corporate and foundation donations from over 200 organizations. With six paid, experienced and talented staff members and a strong 24-member board, the Citizens League continues to be a respected source for creative solutions to difficult policy problems.

The Citizens League is differentiated from other policy organizations by their genuine multi-partisanship, their ability to look at any issue that matters to Minnesota's quality of life and economic health, and their status as a membership-based group. They can convene the stakeholders that matter on issues without bias or a pre-conceived agenda. In today's partisan world, that's a huge advantage.
The League is governed by a 24-member Board of Directors, which is elected by the membership.

Their Mission
The Citizens League builds civic imagination and capacity in Minnesota by:
Identifying, framing and proposing solutions to public policy problems;
Developing civic leaders in all generations who govern for the common good; and
Organizing the individual and institutional relationships necessary to achieve these goals.
