Jean Case and Steve Case to receive Citizen of the Year AwardAugust 18, 2011
![]() Jean Case and Steve Case co-founded the Case Foundation in 1997 to reflect their family’s commitment to giving. From building AOL, which became a hub for the first wave of online civic action and social activism; investing in online giving platforms like Network for Good and Causes, funding and guiding innovative national service and organizations like City Year and Mobilize.org; or ushering in a new era of democratized philanthropy and online giving through projects like America’s Giving Challenge, Jean and Steve Case have been tireless and effective champions of developing active and engaged citizens. The Citizen of the Year Award recognizes a private citizen who has made exemplary contributions in championing civic participation. Former recipients include TIME Magazine Managing Editor Rick Stengel, former Senator Harris Wofford, 9/11 Commission co-chair and former Congressman Lee Hamilton, educational pioneer Irasema Salcido, and philanthropists Ray Chambers and Eugene Lang. The Award will be presented at the third annual Civic Innovators Forum on September 15. The Forum is the event that will launch the 66th Annual National Conference on Citizenship, and will be broadcast live online at NCoC.net/live. Registration is still available to attend the National Conference in Arizona on September 22-23. Visit NCoC.net/conference to learn more and register.
