On Thursday, December 10, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3288, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010. Among the items included in the bill was a $1.149 billion package for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the largest appropriation in CNCS history. The passage of H.R. 3288 follows negotiations earlier in the week that consolidated six of the seven remaining appropriations bills into the $446.8 billion Omnibus Spending Package. It now awaits Senate approval before being signed into law by the President. In other congressional news, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee approved Patrick Corvington as the next chief executive of the Corporation for National and Community Service. His nomination will be brought before the Senate as early as next week, and pending his approval, he could take over the position early next year. Corvington is currently a senior associate at the Annie E. Casey Foundation where he works in leadership development and nonprofit capacity building. He was nominated for the position in October by President Obama and would be succeeding David Eisner and interim CEO Nicola Goren.
