Capital Partners for Education
Capital Partners for Education is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in low-income families by helping educationally at-risk students receive a quality education, graduate from high school, and attend good colleges. CPE is the only youth organization in the Washington Metropolitan area that provides students with a combination of private high school partnerships, mentoring relationships, college preparatory instruction, and academic support and enrichment opportunities
Achievements
CPE currently serves 84 students. Our program staff has been researching area mentor organizations and meeting with staff from exceptional mentor programs. We have created a teacher appreciation program to recognize phenomenal teachers. This program funds teachers to participate in professional development programs. We have begun visiting our partner schools more frequently (weekly) and building relationships with teachers, administrators, counselors and other school personnel. We have administered an alumni survey to get feedback on our program. We have invited alumni to speak at our events. We are currently contacting all alumni.
Goals
CPE is currently seeking to expand to support 100 students and to build our mentor program into the best high school mentor program in the DC area. CPE wants our mentor program to be deemed “Excellent” by students, mentors, and parents. CPE is seeking to form stronger relationships with our partner schools and community organizations
This year CPE is launching a student run peer leadership program and will begin a parent group.
All returning students will participate in our summer program where they will have the choice of attending summer school, engaging in some other summer enrichment program, or interning at a local organization that we have partnered with. Finally, we will begin a Teacher Appreciation Program and create partnerships with local colleges and universities
