American Voices

We created American Voices because we think it's time to look beyond party labels and party lines. It's time for engagement - for all of us to work together to find solutions to the challenges we face as a nation.

Mission

To provide enlightening, high profile public addresses, performances and issue-focused public forums to serve as catalysts for awareness, empowerment and action on the issues of the day.

Achievements

Over the past two years we have presented 40 events, attended by 65,000 people. With speakers such as President Bill Clinton, Bill Moyers, Al Franken, Dr. Cornel West and Governor Ann Richards, we have brought to the Pacific Northwest the voices, ideas and viewpoints that an informed electorate must hear to exercise its essential role of governance in a democratic society.

Guiding Principles: While our nation is dangerously divided and growing more so, we believe that what unites Americans is far stronger than that which divides us. Our democracy - with free and open access to every voice and every viewpoint - is the envy of the world. We have the good fortune and the responsibility to be informed. We have the power to shape our collective future. We have only to act.

Goals

American Voices inspires a diverse citizenry to take part in the crucial conversation and decisions destined to affect our lives and the lives of generations to come. By doing so, we hope to:

  • Foster opportunities for lively, civil discussions
  • Increase discourse that shapes informed opinions and reduces public apathy
  • Encourage voting and political activism
  • Expand the wealth of information available to the public-at-large
  • Promote opportunities for shared laughter and enjoyment
  • Ensure Seattle becomes an obligatory stop for any leader wanting to affect public policy
  • Provide public gatherings where people can work together to find solutions
