The League of Women Voters
Mission
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
The League has fought for more than eighty years to improve our systems of government. The enduring vitality and resonance of the League as a trusted force for change and good government comes from its unique decentralized structure: a national organization with potent partners at the grassroots level: 1,000 local and 50 state Leagues, and Leagues in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hong Kong.
From its inception in 1920, the League of Women Voters has been a leading voice for change, strengthening our democratic system at every level of government. We have evolved over time, tackling the emerging issues of the day -- from child labor and civil rights to the Equal Rights Amendment and the Motor Voter Law. And the League will continue to take on the challenges of a new century, reforming the governmental system and engaging the citizens -- so that everyone votes and every vote counts.
