Washington Academic Internship

The Washington Academic Internship Program’s mission is to enhance civic engagement and deepen civic education among policy makers, academics, students, and citizens.  We do this through a variety of teaching programs among disparate age levels , seminars, focused policy discussions, relevant research on service learning , domestic and foreign policy, and public lectures that engage various civil constituencies.

The goal of the Washington Academic Internship Program is to bring promising, committed upper-division Ohio State University students to the nation’s capital to engage in a rigorous academic quarter of study in politics and public policy-making, citizenship and leadership, and expose them to various diverse practitioners who integrate academic integrity with civic values in their professional lives.  We have operated this office and program since the spring of 2000 and have served over 200 students who are now living our shared ideals, whether teaching in public schools, working in the private sector or in non-governmental organizations, serving in the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps, or engaged in graduate training in law, environmental science, public policy or economics.   Many of our alumni are working in journalism, city, state , and national politics, and environmental and public health agencies.  Our goal for the coming year is to deepen our involvement in the Washington policy and journalistic committees, serve to educate more promising young people, and connect OSU alumni and friends with our students to have a cross-generational dialogue among interested citizens about essential domestic and foreign policy concerns.
