NCoC is committed to supporting the growing engagement of Americans. As a bridge between partners in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, we administer various programs and initiatives that aim to help build a more active and engaged citizenry and unlock the power of our nation’s most valuable resource: our citizens.

Annual Conference and Events

The Annual National Conference on Citizenship is NCoC's signature event. Held in proximity to Citizenship Day (also known as Constitution Day), NCoC convenes leaders in the field of civic engagement to exchange information and to discuss ways to progress our shared mission of encouraging Americans to become fully involved citizens.

Civic Health Index

An annual report that elevates the discussion of our nation’s civic health by measuring a wide variety of civic indicators, America’s Civic Health Index is in an effort to educate Americans about our civic life and to motivate citizens, leaders and policymakers to strengthen it.

The report has been produced nationally since 2006. In 2009, the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act directed NCoC to work in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service to further expand this work.

Civic100

The Civic100 a nationwide initiative to measure, track, and promote how businesses are institutionalizing civic engagement into their corporate culture. It will launch publicly in 2012.

CivicNation

NCoC believes the foundation for an engaged, informed, giving, and trusting citizenry is fostered through meaningful civic education and learning programs. NCoC’s work in the civic learning space is encompassed in our CivicNation initiative, including issuing an update to the 2003 “Civic Mission of Schools” report.

Awards

NCoC offers three awards annually that recognize the contributions extraordinary individuals make in service to our country. They are the Franklin Award, the Joseph H. Kanter Citizen of the Year Award, and the HOOAH Award, commissioned by the Major George A. Smith Memorial Fund.
